Steve Sem-Sandberg is a leading European novelist. He’s the author of several acclaimed and awarded novels and is a member of The Swedish Academy.

Steve Sem-Sandberg (b. 1958) lives in Stockholm. Besides his authorship he works as a literary critic at Swedish daily, Dagens Nyheter. He has won a number of literary awards (such as the August Prize in 2009, the Aftonbladet Literary Award and the De Nios Grand Award) and has been shortlisted for the prestigious Nordic Council Literature Prize on three occasions. His trilogy on three women (Milena Jesenská, Ulrike Meinhof and Lou Andreas Salomé) in the 20th century won great acclaim in Scandinavia.
Härifrån till allmänningen (From Here to the Great Commons), published in 2005 and set during the interesting period between 1965 and 1975, received outstanding reviews. Sem-Sandberg is often regarded as one of the most interesting authors to arise from Scandinavia during this past decade.
Sem-Sandberg’s critically acclaimed and powerful novel, De fattiga i Lodz (The Emperor of Lies) was published in September 2009 and has been sold to over twenty-five countries in major deals and has been awarded The August Prize in 2009.
In 2018, Sem-Sandberg was awarded a scholarship from the foundation Natur & Kultur, for great literary contributions. In 2019, the novel W. was nominated for The August Prize, The Nordic Council Literature Prize and Swedish Radio’s Literature Prize.
In 2020, Steve Sem-Sandberg was elected into the Swedish Academy, taking seat number 14.
Steve Sem-Sandberg was the winner of the Delblanc Prize 2021.
