The word Roots is the definition of my livelihood. What do we as farmers depend on? Our roots. Where does our food come from? Our roots. What are family farmers and ranchers proud of? Our roots. Everything we are as producers revolves around our generational roots.

My family farm is located in Tennessee. The state is very strong in agriculture and truly protects our way of life. Our state respects and understands the need for buying local. They want to learn and educate themselves on agriculture.

We forget where our food comes from. We forget the importance of the people who supply food at the grocery store. Unfortunately we have let bigger corporations control our markets in pricing and growth. The farmers and ranchers continue to fight for our food security and its a topic we don’t talk about. We must start paying attention to land availability, water resources and our future for our food supply.

Change is needed for our food. I believe education from the family farmer and rancher is the answer. I believe that using our voice, spreading the truth and sharing our story can make the impact for the world to see our passion. Together as an agriculture industry we have the ability to make a difference.
